Dave's Dug Out:

Did you know that mulch in the fall can help stabilize winter roots?  Mulch can help with weed control and help with moisture and helps with your soil and provides a habitat for earth worms in which they help turn your soil.  Make sure you remove old mulch before applying new mulch and apply 2-4 inches deep, but make sure when you apply the new mulch please keep it 3-6 inches away from building foundations and away from the base of trees and shrubs.  Happy mulching!   Have a great weekend-

Go OU SOONERS!

Joe's Jargon:

I know you have heard about the invasion of bed beds sweeping the United States.  If you travel allot or have recently bought used furniture, please check your home.  Bed bugs are easily seen and they have a flat body and a reddish brown color.  If you think you may have bed bugs and if you can afford to replace your mattress, please do so.  If you cannot afford to do so, vacuum your mattress thoroughly and apply a sealable cover to the mattress.  Also wash all clothes, linens, and bedding in hot water and then immediately vacuum the area.  Everyone have a great weekend!

Dave's Dug Out:

I hope everyone had a great week!  Starting October 1st, several counties will start mailing out property tax bills.  Please carefully look yours over and if you need to contest, an appraisal can help you prove your homes market value.  You will have 30 days upon receiving your property tax bill to contest.  If you call my office to order an appraisal and mention this blog, you will receive 10% off the cost of an appraisal.  It definitely can be worth it and save some money in the long run.  Have a great weekend!

You can also save money by getting PMI (Private Mortgage Insurance) removed (see our website About PMI).  If you put less than 20% down when you purchased your house, give us a call so we can help, call 817-552-0068 and mention my blog and we will give you 10% off an ordered appraisal.  Have a great weekend!

Dave's Dug Out:

I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend!  Football time is upon us and the fall season is around the corner and its a great time to start planning an outdoor living space with a Fire Pit.  According to the American Society of Landscape Architects, fire pits, or outdoor fireplaces, are the #1 requested design feature for today.  You can accomplish this for a lot less than you might think.  Outdoor fire pits, or outdoor fireplaces add allot of ambiance to a cool evening.  There are some safety features you definitely need to do some research before starting this project.  Its a great way to add space for your football game get-to-gethers!  Have a great weekend!

Joe's Jargon:

To add to your great outdoor entertaining space, here are 5 perennial you can plant for fall here in Texas:

Artemisia,  Columbine,  Iris,  Salvia Greggii,  and Scabiosa.

The Scabiosa, its common name Pincushion, is one of the nicest choices you will find for all summer long blooms and hardy for fall/winter.  The Texas shrub Salvia Greggii can add allot of color for your backyard entertaining, it blooms red, pink, coral, purple or white and attracts butterflies, hummingbirds in the summer.  Wow, with this information, you should have a great time hosting your football game parties.  Have a great weekend!

Dave's Dug Out:

I know this sounds crazy but its almost time to start thinking about winterizing your home.  A great place to start, blocking the leaks.  This will save on your energy bill and save you some money to buy more Christmas presents.  On a windy day, light an incense stick and walk around your doors, windows, and electrical outlets. Use door sweeps to render the problem.  Also, check the outside of your home and use caulk but make sure to use masonry sealer around brick exterior.  Have a great weekend!

Joe's Jargon:

I agree with Dave!  It is now time to think about getting our yards ready for fall/winter.  First thing, clean out the cutters, not a fun job but very important.  It is not time to put the garden hoses away just yet, but make sure you do have your proper tools needed to cover the outside faucets.  Make sure you rake leaves out of outside pools, flower beds, and ponds.  Fall is a good time to get all weeds up and reseed the area for a better looking lawn come next spring.  Have a great weekend!
